About this blog

This blog is written by Karen Cropper. Originally I set it up as a place to write about courses that I was studying and to practise the website development things that I was learning. That’s mostly using WordPress.

I had the idea for “Wouldn’t it be brilliant if…” to create a site where people could post things that they thought needed inventing or solving and then other people could take those ideas and see if they could solve them. But I never got around to that and now I find myself in the situation of thinking things like wouldn’t it be brilliant if there wasn’t plastic in the ocean and that people cared about climate change enough to actually take action to reverse it, and so on.

Generally I don’t have enough time to write things I want to and then when I do the posts get long and they meander.  I’ve done a lot more online courses than I have written about here. I don’t imagine there is any audience. I am really writing notes for myself to find at a later date when I have forgotten about how to do something or that I was previously really interested in a particular topic. Lately my focus is mostly art related.

I previously blogged about social media with a focus on creatives at www.karencropper.wordpress.com

I run a hashtag on Twitter, #KaleidoSaturday which involves posting kaleidoscope and mandala images on a Saturday and tagging them so others can find them. As of June 2019 this the Twitter account has over 1600 followers and there are 76 people who have participated a some time, who are listed here:  https://twitter.com/kaleidosaturday/lists/participants

About Me

I am no longer young, yet I feel as if I am only just starting out and getting to know myself and what life is all about. In 2012 I came to the end of a fixed term contract at the Open University and decided to take a career break for an unspecified length of time. You could say I am still on that break. I had the idea of publishing some books and I have done some of that.  Here are some links to my publishing projects:

I spent some time doing freelance work in the area of social media, websites and video making. I still maintain a number of website and social media accounts for other people. It uses up some creative energy, but is not very satisfying.

The thing that is satisfying is being an artist. For me it isn’t for recognition or payment, it just feels to me to be something that I need to do to stay sane, it is what brings me joy and makes sense to me. So that ‘s what I do, I’m an artist.
