Following on from posting a message about HTML5 Boilerplate, a fellow student mentioned another similar project, Materialise. Created and designed by Google, Material Design is a design language that combines the classic principles of successful design along with innovation and technology.
Again this is worth knowing about and a browse. The website has a list of features. I am just going to list here the thinkgs that stood out to me as a kind of glossary for terms I want to remember:
- Use a modal for dialog boxes, confirmation messages, or other content that can be called up.
- Parallax is an effect where the background content or image in this case, is moved at a different speed than the foreground content while scrolling.
- ScrollFire is a jQuery Plugin that executes callback functions depending on how far into the page you’ve scrolled. Call back means to bring your attention back. These are basically events that are triggered by scrolling down. These events can be pop up messages or extra text or images on a page.
- Waves is an external library included in Materialize that makes the animated ‘ink effect’ used in Material Design, which makes button clicking interesting.
